INTRODUCTION
Dr. A. VENKATACHALAM, a Second Century Ambassador believes that the opportunity to lead and inspire others through LIONS has its rewards in the satisfaction of having served.
A simple man, Chalam as his fondly called by friends and relatives is the son of Dr. A. Ramachandran who was LION. Dr.Venkatachalam completed M.B.B.S from Osmania University, Master of Surgery in Ophthalmology from the prestigious Western Regional Institute of Ophthalmology from GujratUniversity with distinction. At present he is a Professor, Consultant and Opthlamic Surgeon; he was inducted into Lions Club of Hyderabad. In the year 1996 became the President of the Club. Through its growing years, chalam has become one of the pillars of the Lions Club of Hyderabad.
Elected as Centennial Year District Governor for the year 2016-2017,First District Governor of District 320 A, Established 17 Legacy Projects- Old Age Home at Amangal, 4 Vision Centers, Paediatric Ophthalmic Centers and Computer Learning Centers, etc., ata cost of Rs.12.00 Crores (18.46 Lakh US$). In 2017 he was Awarded Lions International President Leadership Medal for maximum number of Permanent Centennial Legacy Project as District Governor.
He has attended many Lions Conferences and institutes local, national and international and has been appointed as Chairman Sight First-Multiple District 320. Received the prestigious "Knight of the Blind" Award from SankaraNethralaya, Chennai in 2019 for the exemplary services rendered in restoring vision to the poor and needy with love & care. In the year 2017 he was honoured by Aravind Eye Care System, for valuable contribution towards eliminating "Needless Blindness".
He is Chairman Medical Services Committee & Chief Technical Advisor - LCHSadhuram Eye Hospital Post graduate Institute of Ophthalmology. Professor & Head of Department Post Graduate Studies - LCH Sadhuram Eye Hospital, Hyderabad, India. Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Hyderabad Eye Hospital, Hyderabad. Chairman & Technical Advisor (2018-2019) LCHSadhuram Eye Hospital Post graduate Institute of Ophthalmology.
A recognized Post Graduate Teacher trained number of Post Graduate Students and Fellows. Performed more than 90000 Surgeries in last 31Years. Organized more than 1000 Outreach Programme. He is instrumental in establishing a number of Vision Centres and Satellite Centres in various parts of Telangana State. Started Speciality units in Retina, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Glaucoma and Oculoplasty. Initiated Research and Development Programme and has been an Examiner for National Board of Exams.
Dr. A. Venkatachalam is specialized in Community Ophthalmology including Outreach Programmes, Prevention of Blindness, Phacoemulsification and Intra Ocular Lenses, Post Graduate Teaching in Ophthalmology, Medical & Surgical Glaucoma and Laser Applications in Anterior Segment.
He is a Member of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi Ophthalmic Society, CAMHADD Indian Medical Association, Life member -All India Ophthalmic Society.
Dr. A. Venkatachalam is happily married to Dr. A. Bhavana and has been blessed with two children Dr. A. Sriram and Dr.A.S. Prashanth.
